Head of Marketing

We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Marketing to lead our marketing team based in Normanton, Wakefield. The role reports to the Chief Marketing Officer.

Principal Responsibilities include:

  • Develop & execute the Group marketing services strategy.
  • Lead on strategic marketing initiates including Brand & Campaign Development, Communication, Creative Design and Social Media.
  • Be responsible for brand guidelines and guardianship across Aston Barclay and The Car Buying Group (TCBG).
  • Support the Chief Marketing Officer with creation of the Marketing budget, ensuring the function operates in line with this.
  • Manage several key agency relationships.
  • Lead & manage direct reports.

Duties include:

Brand and campaign development.

  • You will be responsible for brand guidelines and guardianship across Aston Barclay and The Car Buying Group (TCBG).
  • This includes ensuring all physical and digital touchpoints are on brand – from our website and social media platforms, to our physical auction sites.
  • You will analyse existing quantitative data, and capture fresh qualitative data, to generate actionable insights.
  • This involves generating vendor and buyer leads for our Buyer and Sales teams to convert into customers.
  • This also entails developing existing customer segments in order for us to deliver targeted marketing campaigns aimed at changing customer behaviour. This includes promoting certain products (such as electric vehicles, vans, stock funding) and services to specific audiences in order to drive engagement with our auction programme.
  • As a group role, you will also support our Digital Marketing Manager with the activation of performance marketing campaigns for TCBG, as well as taking ownership for creative content across our website and social media platforms.
  • You will champion the voice of the customer.

Communicating our sales programme.

  • Work cross-functionally to communicate our weekly auction programme in a way that engages both vendors and buyers, stimulating physical and digital footfall as well as successful bids in the process.
  • This involves chairing a weekly cross-functional marketing operations call to capture requirements and turn into a weekly marketing plan.
  • The weekly marketing plan is typically activated through daily content published across web, social, and email.

Local Marketing.

  • As well as communicating our weekly sales programme, you will work closely with our 6 physical auction sites to develop a local marketing toolkit and execute local marketing plans.  This includes local advertising as well as developing and utilising on-site marketing capabilities that engage buyers.
  • This entails working closely with our Auction Centre Managers, Local Buyer Executives, and IT teams.

Vendor Support.

  • In addition to developing local marketing toolkits, you will also develop and implement tiered marketing packages that enable our vendors to engage with the appropriate buyer base.
  • You will also create regular performance reports as part of our quarterly review process for vendors.

 Creative design studio.

  • As brand guardian, all internal and external facing creative design comes through you and your team.
  • This includes managing our internal and external design resource to fulfil the strategic and operational demands of the business, and ensuring that the relevant briefing and execution processes are managed accordingly.
  • You will also be responsible for building and maintaining our asset library.

Social Media.

  • You are responsible for developing and executing our group social media strategy across paid, owned, and earned.
  • This focuses on a central / local approach, and a close working relationship with each of the sites is involved.

You will support the Chief Marketing Officer with creation of the Marketing budget, ensuring the function operates in line with this.

You will lead and manage a number of direct reports.

Skills/Experience:

  • Marketing degree/qualification, and/or; experience in leading direct reports in a marketing services / operations team.
  • Strong, demonstrable experience in a strategic brand & campaign role with b2b and d2c audiences.
  • Experience of working in a multi-channel and multi-site operation is desirable.
  • Experience of developing successful social media strategies.
  • Excellent eye for detail.
  • Highly creative.
  • Excellent inter-personal and communications skills.
  • Strong project management skills and an ability to generate new ideas and be innovative.
  • Ability to influence at all levels.

40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
